Cory Jean Oliveira, 60, of Tiverton, died on Tuesday, December 2, 2025 at Charlton Memorial Hospital after complications following emergency surgery.
Cory was born May 11, 1965, daughter of the late Antone F. and Margaret E. (Rosinha) Oliveira and was a longtime resident of Little Compton and Tiverton. Cory was diabetic from a young age, but she refused to let this define her or limit her life. She worked for many years as a social worker for the Department of Children & Families in MA, as well as a social worker at St. Anne’s Hospital and a faculty advisor at the Boston University School of Social Work.
Cory married her husband Brian A. Medeiros in 1989, and they were together for 36 years until her death. Through Cory’s job helping children in foster care and her passion for helping individuals with disabilities, and through Brian’s job as a TV producer for a program focused on children in state custody, they met Theresa R. Medeiros, a 9-year old foster child with Down syndrome. They adopted her as their daughter in 1995, and in 2002 their son Casey A. Medeiros was born. In 2011 the family adopted their dog Inches, who lived with them until her death in 2024.
Traveling was one of Cory’s passions. Along with her family, Cory traveled to 47 of the 48 contiguous states (the last remaining was North Dakota). Cory and her family also visited all 30 of the Major League Baseball stadiums, and the major cities the teams reside in. They also drove cross country together multiple times, with favorite locations including Hollywood, New Orleans, and the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in Cleveland. She also attended many rock concerts with Brian, went to the Life Is Beautiful Music Festival in Las Vegas with Casey, went with Theresa to the Cabbage Patch Hospital in Georgia, and experienced many Broadway shows with her family in New York. Cory and her family visited many theme parks, including Sesame Place, Disneyland, and Canobie Lake Park. New Hampshire was also a particular favorite destination for Cory, particularly Clark’s Bears, Santa’s Village, Story Land, & Hart’s Turkey Farm.
Cory was known for her sharp sense of humor and sarcastic personality, which she often expressed on her Facebook page, along with personal stories and her passion for social issues. There she often joked about having several “pretend husbands”, including Bruce Springsteen, Bono and Prince.
Cory had a broad range of interests and hobbies. She liked to cook and bake, being an avid watcher of the Food Network, She also loved watching true crime shows and Law & Order, and was rarely seen without a Diet Coke or her latest TJ Maxx purchase. Cory also loved to spend time at Sachuest Beach in Middletown, and had regular dinners with her siblings Traci and Jason at Portas Da Cidade in Westport.
In addition to her husband and children, survivors include her siblings: Christopher Oliveira and his wife Siobhan of Little Compton, Traci Barros and her husband Michael of Little Compton, Jason Oliveira and his wife Sara of Little Compton and Toni Stone and her husband Deloy of Tiverton; her mother-in-law: Eileen Medeiros of Dartmouth; along with many nieces and nephews.
Per Cory’s wishes, there will be no wake or funeral. A Celebration of Cory’s Life will be held on Sunday, December 21, 2025 at White's of Westport. Anyone who wishes to celebrate Cory’s life is welcome to stop by anytime between 2:00pm and 4:00pm.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Rise Above at https://weriseabove.org/ , an organization that supports children in Massachusetts foster care, a cause that Cory cared deeply about and spent her career championing.
