Mitchell “Augs” “Auggie” August, 66, passed away on Friday, December 5, 2025 after a long illness. He was born the oldest of four children of the late Bennett and Judith (Goldstein) August. He grew up in Longmeadow, MA. After graduating from Longmeadow High School, Mitch attended and graduated from Southeastern Massachusetts University in Dartmouth. Mitch worked for many years with adults with developmental disabilities which he loved. After leaving his position in human service he eventually ended up working as a real estate title examiner and opened his own business where he worked with his wife for the last 10 years.
At an early age, Mitch developed an obsession with hockey, playing the position of goalie from childhood up until recently in men’s leagues. In his home, “Hockey is Life” were words often spoken. He of course was an avid Bruins fan. Mitch bled black and gold.
Along with hockey, Mitch had a love of animals, both dogs and cats. He could never turn his back on an animal in need, often bringing strays home.
Music was another passion of Mitch’s. He and his wife spent many summer evenings at Great Woods in Mansfield enjoying the music of The Allman Brothers Band. Mitch also enjoyed many days spent playing cards with his childhood friends from Longmeadow, bonds that have lasted a lifetime.
Everyone who knew Mitch would say what a genuinely nice person he was. What you saw was exactly who Mitch was. He always had a kind word for those he encountered. He will be greatly missed by anyone who knew him.
He is survived by his wife, Margaret; brothers, Richard and his wife, Ellen and Neil; his sister, Jill Carra and her husband, Nick and many loving nieces and nephews.
A celebration of Mitch’s life will be held in the spring of 2026.
