Obituary

Thaddeus “Ted” P. O’Connor, of Brockton, passed away on December 4 at his home in West Bridgewater at the age of 89. A lifelong Brockton
resident until moving to West Bridgewater ten years ago, Ted graduated from Brockton High School in 1954 and later earned his Bachelor of
Science degree in Business from Northeastern University in 1971.

He is survived by his two children, Kolleen Carchio of Lakeville and Keith O’Connor and his wife Melinda of Dedham; his sister, Veronica Lavelle
and her husband James of Sandown, NH; and his five loving grandchildren—Haley, Abby, John, Declan, and Grace. He also leaves behind many
nieces, nephews, and cousins. Ted was predeceased by his brother, John O’Connor of Easton, and his sister, Patricia Spaulding of Brockton.

Ted was extremely proud to be a Brocktonian. From a young age he developed a strong work ethic, taking on jobs such as working as a pin-setter
in Brockton’s bowling alleys and a short-order cook in several of the city’s landmark diners. Whatever he earned, he brought home to his beloved
mother, Anne. He went on to become a plumber’s apprentice, where he learned far more than the trade itself—there were few things Ted couldn’t fix.

Over the years he owned and managed several apartment buildings in Brockton, and later became a small business owner, operating the Brockton
Vacuum Store on Legion Parkway. His talent for repairing almost anything, combined with his natural gift for conversation, made entrepreneurship a
perfect fit after his time in local politics. Of all his interests, none meant more to him than Brockton politics. Ted proudly served as Ward 4 City Councilor
for six years, and he truly enjoyed speaking with his constituents—often stopping for long conversations with neighbors wherever he went.

Ted was also an avid runner who completed three marathons and jogged daily in D.W. Field Park. In 1979, he was struck by a truck while running and
nearly lost his life. After spending two months in the hospital, his determination led him back home and ultimately back to the active life he loved.

He had a deep affection for animals, including his Brittany Spaniel, Romanoff, and his cat, Jazz. In his later years, Ted enjoyed traveling, visiting places
such as Ireland—where he still had relatives—the Caribbean, and Central America.

Above all, Ted cherished time with his family. He loved being with his children, but nothing brought him more joy than his grandchildren. Whether
watching his granddaughter captain the Brown University soccer team or listening to his grandson Declan play piano on Christmas Day, he wore a proud,
permanent grin.

Ted will always be remembered as a one-of-a-kind man—defined by his sharp wit, Irish stubbornness, fierce devotion, gift of the gab, and his deep love for his family.

Services will be on Thursday, 12/11 from 5-7pm at Conley funeral home.
