Barbara A. Ward, 78, of Brockton, passed away at her home on November 27, 2025. She was the beloved wife of the late Daniel L. Ward, “Bumpy”.
Born in Richmond, Virginia, Barbara was the daughter of the late George Dixon and Edna Mae Jefferson. She dedicated many years of service as an administrator in the Healthcare Quality division of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts and as a resident aid for Beaverbrook Step, Inc.
Barbara had a true “green thumb” and found joy in gardening and caring for her houseplants. She also loved sewing and creating with her hands. Known for her infectious laugh and candid nature, Barbara had a remarkable sense of humor and a gift for making others smile. To know her was to love her.
She is survived by her children: Daniel L. Ward and his wife Ana “Lisa” Ward of Stoughton, Kim R. Ward of Fort Mill, SC, and Terah Q. McIntyre of Brockton; her brother Jonathan G. Johnson of Richmond, VA; and two sisters, Deborah Spotts of Brockton and Levada Jefferson of Sacramento, CA. Barbara was a proud grandmother to La’Princia Q. Brown, Jhazz M. Showard, Daniel C. Ward and Ava Fortes-Rodrigues, and leaves behind many cousins, nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her grandson Robert B. Brown, her sister June Burgess and her brother Weston Spotts.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Monday, December 8, 2025, at the Canton Town Club, 300 Bailey Street, Canton, MA. Visitation will take place from 3:00 to 4:30 PM, followed by Homegoing Celebration from 5:00 to 7:00 PM.
