Obituary

BUXTON & SPRINGFIELD, VT- Irene N. Fullam age 90, passed away November 23, 2025 at home in
Buxton, ME surrounded by family.

Irene was born in Springfield, Vermont on June 30, 1935, the daughter of Irene (Dashner) and Rupert Green and Veronica (Dashner) and Edward Novakoski.

After graduating from Springfield High School in 1953, Irene attended Northampton Commercial College. She married Paul D. Fullam in 1958. In 1962, with three children in tow, they moved to Brockways Mill Road where two more children were born. This became their family home, where they would live for 56 years before moving to Maine in 2019.

Irene worked as a highly skilled office manager for Wiggins Concrete Products, and All Seasons Construction for many years. After an early retirement, Irene and Paul worked as park rangers for the Vermont State Parks in the summer months. In the winter months they moved to their home in Tavares, Florida where they worked part time at various places. Perhaps their favorite was tending a citrus stand at one of the nearby orchards. They enjoyed meeting and getting to know the people who stopped by, many of whom returned for the chance to sit and visit with “Paul and Irene”.

Irene enjoyed sewing, knitting, crocheting, traveling with Paul, and spending time with their children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. She knitted Christmas stockings and sweaters, sewed Raggedy Ann and Andy dolls for her grandchildren, and crocheted blankets for as many great-grand babies as she was able. Mom was always busy making. Even as her mind became trapped by dementia, her hands remembered their way with yarn on knitting needles.

In these last few years Irene was lovingly cared for at home by her devoted husband of 67 years, and her daughter, Karen. As her memory faded, Mom remained sweet, polite, and interested in all who visited. She enjoyed singing, laughing, and holding hands with Dad. Though she couldn’t always remember his name, she knew he was someone who loved her. She knew she was safe in his care.

We would like to thank the various people who helped us care for our mom over these last few years. We are particularly grateful for the wonderful care given by Serena, Emma and Ashlynn who treated our mom as if she was their own, with respect and gentle care. We would also like to thank the staff at Hospice of Southern Maine for their support.

Irene is predeceased by her sister Dorothy Whittemore, her brother Robert Green, her half brother Tommy Green, and her granddaughter Robin Flaig. She is survived by her husband Paul Fullam; and their 5 children- Karen Connary (Robert) of Maine, Lucinda Burk of Massachusetts, Randy Fullam (Patricia) of Springfield, VT, Heather Fullam (Ani) of Claremont,
NH, Natalie Alldredge (Mark) of Georgia; her sister Marian Koledo of Michigan; her half sister, Rosemary Martin (Walter), her sister-in-law Patricia Mitchell, her brother-in-law Merton Fullam (Connie), and her cousin Shirley Riopelle- all of Springfield, VT; their 14 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

A service will be scheduled at a later date.
