Obituary

Carol Jean (Sibley) Meyer passed into the arms of her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on November 15, 2025. She is survived by her partner Allen Newcomb, her three sons Jeffrey E. (Lisa) Meyer of Coventry, RI; David W. (Mary) Meyer of Rutland, MA and Gregory E. (Julia) Meyer of Greensboro, NC. Eight grandchildren - Nathan Meyer, RI; Alexandra (Meyer) Phares, NC; Adrianna Meyer, RI; Daniel Meyer, MA; Elizabeth Meyer, MA; Alexa Meyer, SC; Joshua and Claire Meyer, NC. Two great grandsons- Lucas and Preston Phares, NC. Her sister, Cheryl Bassett of Boylston, MA and several nieces and nephews.

Carol was born on August 12, 1940 in Worcester, MA the eldest daughter of the late Eugene and Shirley Mae (Nilson) Sibley. She graduated from South High School and attended Salter Secretarial School in Worcester, MA. Carol was fluent in German after living in Germany for a total of seven years with her family. After raising her children, Carol worked in the medical field doing coding and medical transcription for several doctors’ offices and medical facilities both in Worcester, MA and later in Lakeland, FL. In 1987 on a chance meeting, Carol met Allen and together they formed a foundation of love and respect that has lasted for 38 years relocating to Florida together in 1996.

She was an active member of the First United Methodist Church of Lakeland, FL. Carol raised over $12,000 for Church missions by organizing jewelry and handbag sales donated by church patrons. She also volunteered at the church book store and was an active member in the United Women in Faith. She enjoyed painting and created many beautiful oil paintings of scenic views and flowers during art classes in The Hamptons Golf and Country Club community. Carol also enjoyed crafting and made many miniature scenes inside teapots, which she then gifted to family and friends. Carol loved walking her two beloved dogs, Derby and Precious. Traveling, cruising, and visiting the ocean were some of her favorite activities. Whenever she was back visiting her family in New England, she loved going out for lobster rolls.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held at the First United Methodist Church of Lakeland, FL on January 9, 2026 at 1 PM. The service will be live-streamed for those that cannot attend in person.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that memorial donations be made in Carol's honor to the First United Methodist Church, specifically designating the contribution for the United Women in Faith.
