Obituary

Mary L. Berlo, age 93, of Bridgewater, passed away on Saturday, November 15, 2025, at Boston Medical Center in Boston. She previously lived at Southern Artery Senior Housing located in Quincy for many years.

Born and raised in Dorchester, she was the daughter of the late Allan and Margaret A. (MacDonnell) MacVarish.
Mary graduated from St. Gregory Grammar and High School.

She worked part time for the Post Office, Linda Mae’s Restaurant and took care of elderly and sick adults.

Some of her interests include playing cards, especially whist and pinochle, going to the movies with her sister; traveling to many places with her daughters, such as Las Vegas, Foxwoods, Niagara Falls, Cape Cod, and Florida, and going to different restaurants with her friends and family. She was known to be a bingo fanatic and often played at St. Agatha’s and St. Mary’s Churches.

Her family and friends will remember her friendly, caring, and generous demeanor. She loved her children, grandchildren, and veterans.

Mary is survived by her children, Catherine and her partner Daniel Green of Sandwich and Naples, FL and Jean Berlo McDonald and her husband Joseph of Bridgewater; a sister, Catherine “Kay” Accardi of Brockton; her grandchildren, Marc McDonald and fiancé Cheyenne Pollreisz, Jon McDonald, and Katrina Berlo; and many nieces and nephews. She was the mother of the late Richard F. Berlo and sister of the late Allan, Donald, Robert, John and Francis MacVarish.

Relatives and friends are cordially invited to Mary’s Mass of Christian Burial on Saturday, November 29, 2025, at 11:00 am, in St. Michael Church, 87 N. Main Street, Avon. Interment in St. Joseph Cemetery in West Roxbury will be private.

In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory can be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
