Lewis G. Milton
November 15, 1939 – November 15, 2025
STANDISH- Lewis G. Milton was born on November 15, 1939, to Stanley and Phyllis Milton of Westbrook, Maine. He grew up alongside his sister, Karleen, and attended Westbrook schools, where he was an active and well-liked student. Lewis played basketball during his freshman, sophomore, and junior years, and was a proud member of the Industrial Club during his junior and senior years. His senior yearbook captured his spirit perfectly: “He should, he could, he would, he did the best.” He had many close friends and a warm, easygoing nature that stayed with him throughout his life.
After graduating high school, Lewis was drafted into the United States Army. He served honorably for four years and was stationed at Fort Hood during the assassination of President John F. Kennedy in 1963—an event he remembered vividly. When he returned home, he began a 35-year career at the S.D. Warren Paper Mill, where he worked with dedication and pride.
Lewis met his wife, Victoria, while roller skating—something the two would enjoy together for decades. They were married for 56 years and built a life rich with friendship, laughter, and shared adventures on the skating rink.
They raised three children: BonnieJean; Robert and Kimberley. Lewis was a father who never hesitated to lend a hand, whether helping with sports teams, Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts, or neighborhood activities. Saturday nights often found him loading his station wagon with his children and a crowd of neighborhood kids to take them roller skating—never dropping them off but skating right alongside them.
Lewis was blessed with two grandchildren, Kevin and Izzy. His bond with Izzy was especially tender; they spent countless hours playing checkers and watching the news together. Izzy brought out a gentle, joyful side of her grandfather. Lewis also cherished his great-grandson, Trevor.
Lewis found steadfast companionship in his cousin and close friend, Danny Conner, and Danny’s wife, Sue, who remained lovingly by his side near the end of his life.
He is also survived by Kevin’s wife, Maggie, and Robert’s fiancée, Stacey, along with many beloved extended family members and friends.
Lewis—Dad, Grampa—will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him. We take comfort knowing we will meet again.
