
Jay Wayne Almand, 88, of Cordele passed away Friday, November 14, 2025, at his residence. Arrangements will be announced later.
Mr. Almand was born on May 19, 1927, in Moultrie, and he was the son of the late Lindsey Owen Almand and Leila Parker Almand. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Janice Janette Hart Almand; one son, James Andrew Almand; and two sisters, Helen Gorelli and Jane Burgess.
Before retiring, he worked as the terminal manager for Georgia Highway Express. Among his many interests, he was an avid hunter and fisherman. He coached Lady’s Softball and umpired for the Tift County Recreation Department. He was a diehard Atlanta Braves fan, and he served as an Auxiliary Deputy Sheriff in Tift County. He was a member of Arabi Baptist Church.
Mr. Almand had a deep love for his wife and children, and he loved his country and served in the United States Army, where he was stationed at Fort Benning. He also loved his Redman chewing tobacco.
Mr. Almand is survived by two daughters and one son-in-law, Nancy Belcastro of Cordele and Teresa and Paul Mulholland of Jacksonville, Florida; three grandchildren and their spouses, Jacob and Cherish Mulholland, Kristie and Rocky Hilton and Anna Belcastro; and six great-grandchildren, River, Beau and Cole Mulholland and Jaime, Kiley and Gavin Hilton; and one great-great grandchild, Willow.
