
Arthur “Buddy” J. Talbot Jr. was born in Salem, MA on November 29, 1947 to Arthur J. Talbot Sr. and Leona E. (Simard) Talbot. Buddy was preceded in death by his older sister, Patricia T. (Talbot) Burke. Patricia resided in MO with her Husband Phillip A. Burke and her two children Sharon P. (Burke) Nauman and Kelley A. Burke. Buddy's younger sister, Linda A. (Talbot) Peterson resides in FL with her husband Donald Peterson. Buddy grew up in South Salem near Salem State University and Forest River Park, which was the siblings’ favorite play ground, as children.
Buddy attended St. Joseph's Catholic School for a while, then transferred to Saltonstall Grammar School, followed by Salem High School, where he played Football for the Salem Witches. He graduated in 1966.
During high school, he worked for Kernwood Country Golf Club in Salem where he nurtured and solidified his love of golf.
Buddy was drafted to the Vietnam war in 1968 and returned home wounded in 1969 with a Honorable Discharge and a Purple Heart.
After his military service , Buddy attended North Shore Community College, receiving his Bachelors Degree. He then pursued and obtained his Masters Degree in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Massachusetts Amherst. Buddy began working for Atwood & Morrill in Salem while still in high school as a sweeper, and worked several small jobs there until he was hired as an Engineer upon graduation. He continued working there until his retirement
Buddy met and married Carol A. (St. Pierre) Talbot from Marblehead, where they settled and raised a family. Buddy and Carol were married at St. Theresa's Church in Salem in 1981 and shortly thereafter welcomed son Michael Arthur. Their daughter Kathryn Anne (Kate) completed the family in 1983. Buddy was predeceased by Carol (2023) and Michael (2021), and survived by Kate and her wife Ashley Stebbins, who reside in Vermont. Kate and Ashley are parents to Buddy’s two beloved grandchildren, Luke Michael (7) and Eliza Joanne (4). They were truly the lights of his life, and they cherished their time with their Pepere in Marblehead.
In addition to golfing, Buddy developed a love for sailing and was a longtime member of the Marblehead Yacht Club. He was honored to serve as commodore of MYC in 1997, when the USS Constitution sailed in Marblehead for its 200th anniversary.
In his later years, Buddy spent a lot of time at the Marblehead Council on Aging where he made a wonderful group of friends playing bocce among other activities.
Relatives and friends are invited to visiting hours on Sunday, November 16, 2025 from 12:00 to 4:00 PM at the Levesque Funeral Home 163 Lafayette St., [Route 114 / 1-A] Salem.
