Evelyn G. (Mahoney) Nighelli, age 100, of Norton, passed away peacefully, in the presence of her loving family on Sunday, November 9, 2025 at the Sturdy Memorial Hospital in Attleboro. She was the beloved wife of the late Ugo C. Nighelli, to whom she was wed for forty years at the time of his death on August 25, 1988.
Born in Charlestown, MA on March 8, 1925, she was a loving daughter of the late John and Gertrude (McCabe) Mahoney.
Evelyn grew up in Charlestown and was a graduate of Charlestown High School. She was a dedicated homemaker to her loving family and a longtime devoted caregiver to her late husband Ugo. Prior to retiring, Mrs. Nighelli was employed as a service representative for thirty years for the telephone company and retired when the company operated under the name Verizon.
A resident of Norton for the past thirty-nine years, Evelyn was a communicant of Saint Mary’s Church in Norton, an avid Boston Red Sox fan and enjoyed trips to area casinos.
She is survived by her devoted children, Evelyn L. Keigan and her husband Paul of Franklin and Naples, Florida, Janice G. Danner and her husband Paul of Plymouth, Mary T. Bannan and her husband Philip of Plainville, Joan C. Danner and her husband William of North Attleboro and Richard J. Nighelli and his wife Karen of Norton. She was the dear sister of the late Arthur Mahoney, Dorothy Maguire, Lawrence Mahoney and Jean Fothergill. She is also survived by her cherished 13 grandchildren, 20 great grandchildren and was also the great grandmother of the late Jillian Lee.
Her funeral service, to which relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend, will be held on Thursday, November 13, 2025 at 11:00 A.M. at the Norton Memorial Funeral Home, 19 Clapp Street (Off Route 140, Taunton Avenue) Norton. Burial will follow at Saint Mary’s Cemetery in Mansfield.
Visitation will be held prior to the services on Thursday morning, beginning at 10:00 A.M. at the Norton Memorial Funeral Home.
