Vida M. (Flaherty) Shea, a lifelong resident of Charlestown, entered into eternal life on Monday, November 3, 2025, at St. Joseph's Nursing & Rehabilitation Center in Dorchester. She was 88 years of age.
Vida was born in Boston on November 2, 1937, a daughter of the late Peter Flaherty and Mary W. (Kennedy) Flaherty. She grew up in Charlestown where she was educated at St. Catherine's Parochial School and graduated from Charlestown High School. Vida was a homemaker most of her adult life caring for her family and others. Her faith was paramount in her life, and she devoted herself to the blessed mother by saying the rosary on a daily basis and watching Catholic Television. In her spare time, she enjoyed watching movies, listening to podcasts on YouTube TV and doing do it yourself projects.
Vida is the beloved wife of the late Gerald P. Shea. She is the devoted mother of Irene Shea, John Shea and his wife Debbie, Mary Shea-Mulligan and her husband Matt, Dianne Shea and the late Jerry Shea, David Shea and Janine Shea-Kerr. She is the loving "Ma" and "Nana Shea" to her 12 grandchildren, the late Maria Amaral and also her great-grandchildren. She is the beloved sister of Patricia Flaherty and the late Peter Flaherty, her best friend Terry Wrenn and David Flaherty. She is also survived by her many loving nieces and nephews.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend Vida's visiting hours on Friday morning, November 7, 2025, from 8:30 A.M. to 10:30 A.M. in The Carr Funeral Home, 220 Bunker Hill St. Charlestown followed by her Funeral Mass in St. Mary's Church, 55 Warren St. Charlestown at 11 A.M. Her burial will take place in Puritan Lawn Memorial Park in Peabody.
