
Dorothy A. “Dot” (Ackerman) Mandella, 94, of Worcester died Friday, October 31st in The Meadows of Leicester. Her husband of 68 years, Thomas Mandella, Jr. died in 2018. She leaves two sons, Thomas G. Mandella, David J. Mandella and his wife, Brinda; four daughters, Denise A. Alexandre and her husband, Dan; Dawn F. Quebedeaux, Ann M. Zerges and her husband, Stephen, and Kim M. Williams and her husband, Issac; her siblings, Andrea Ackerman, Hilda Brunnett, Robert Ackerman, Donald “Jack” Ackerman, Allan Ackerman and his wife, Linda; sister-in-law and best friend, Joyce Mandella; 14 grandchildren; 22 great grandchildren; 5 great-great grandchildren; many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her daughter, Darlene Mandella; her siblings, Margaret Brunnett, Joan Ayotte, Marion Cote, Richard Ackerman, Thomas “Buster” Ackerman, and George Ackerman; and a daughter-in-law, Shirley Mandella.
She was born in Worcester, the daughter of George and Hilda (Dyson) Ackerman. Dorothy worked most of the 1980s for Worcester Hahnemann Hospital, with most of those years spent working in their School of Nursing — her absolute favorite job. She also worked as a nurse’s aide at several local nursing homes, where she was known for her caring nature and dedication to helping others.
During her life, Dorothy enjoyed camping, going on outings and trips with her best friend Joyce, and reading. She loved the Blue Angels and was fortunate to have seen them at several air shows. A true fan, she even sported a Blue Angels tattoo with pride.
She also enjoyed browsing antiques and collectibles, always drawn to items with a bit of history or charm. In her later years, Dorothy cherished time spent visiting with family and celebrating holidays together. Her warmth, humor, and gentle heart will be remembered always.
She leaves behind her beloved family and many dear friends who will forever hold her in their hearts.
Family and friends are invited to her graveside service that will be held on Monday, November 10th at 2 p.m. in St. John’s Cemetery, 260 Cambridge Street (section: St. Elizabeth). There are no calling hours. O’CONNOR BROTHERS FUNERAL HOME, 592 Park Avenue is assisting the family with arrangements.
