Obituary

It is with great sorrow and loss the Ballard family announces the peaceful passing of John G. Ballard or Jean-Guy Ballard of Brockton, MA at 79 years old on October 29th, 2025. John was born to Jean-Aime & Annette (Ethier) in Montreal, Canada. He immigrated to Quincy, MA at age 12 with his parents. He attended the Quincy Public School system graduating in 1963 from Quincy High School. He received his Bachelors of Science from UMass Boston, and his Masters Degree in Education & Computer Science from Leslie College of Cambridge. John went on to teach in the Whitman Public school system for 36 years, teaching French and Mathematics – he also taught at Trinity Catholic Academy of Brockton in his early retirement years alongside his wife and fellow teacher, Theresa. He loved to teach and his impact lasts for generations – he touched the lives of many students throughout the years. He was an active member of the Tri-Parish Community in Brockton and served on the Finance Committee for many years.

John was an avid reader of both French and English daily. He was always ready to share a sweet treat with anyone he possibly could. He was a traveler, and loved to do so with his wife and family - whether vacationing in Miami Beach FL, or spending 47 summers in Dennis, MA boating and spending time on the water. He enjoyed being a travel guide whether through conversation or taking you on an endless car ride. He never failed to snap a picture, or spread joy, love and laughter to everyone he encountered. John loved hockey, skiing and puzzles – he was an encyclopedia of facts and knowledge that he shared with others. He had an affinity for electronics of all types whether it was a computer, camera or clock. His child-like spirit was full of warmth and never-ending fun.

John was a dedicated teacher, husband, Dad and Papa. His legacy of love is carried on by his wife of 57 years Theresa Ballard (Amato), his daughter Michelle M. Meigs and husband Will, his son John M. Ballard and wife Chawnna, and his five grandchildren, Jessica, John Michael and Joseph Ballard, Lilah and Ian Meigs.
