 Anthony Arthur Kounelas, 91 Dateline: Mansfield, MA Anthony Arthur Kounelas, age 91, passed on Wednesday, October 29th, 2025 with his devoted wife, “Nicki” by his side. “Tony” was born on August 11, 1934 in Boston, Massachusetts to Arthur Anthony Kounelas and Androniki (Michalaros) Kounelas both of Alatsata, Asia Minor. Tony was raised and flourished in Somerville, MA. He married his beloved wife, Veronica “Nicki” Kounelas, on August 28th, 1960. Tony was an accomplished electrical engineer, earning his Electrical Engineering degree from Northeastern University in 1957, and his Masters of Business Administration from Northeastern University in 1966. In 1967, he moved with his family to Arlington, MA, where he raised his family for 40 years before moving to Mansfield, MA. A devoted Greek Orthodox Christian, Tony was always trying to learn more about and live out his faith. He was a past president of The Dormition of The Virgin Mary Church in Somerville, MA, a long-term Sunday School teacher, and an active member of the Greek Orthodox churches in Arlington and Mansfield. Tony would often seek out a priest with a question or a topic for discussion. He lived out his faith in many ways including volunteering for the Hellenic Cardiac Fund for over 20 years. Social connections were very important to Tony. He remembered everyone’s birthday and would call them each year to wish them a happy birthday. Tony was loved by many. He was always making new friends, young and old, which earned him the nickname, “The Mayor." Anthony is survived by his loving wife of 65 years, Veronica (Tsouvalas) Kounelas; his daughters: Andrea Kounelas of Fort Myers, FL, Joanne (Kounelas) Krouskos and her husband John Krouskos of Mansfield, Irene (Kounelas) Gibbons and her husband Jim Gibbons of Stow, and his three grandsons, Nick Krouskos, Anthony Krouskos, and Charlie Gibbons. Anthony’s funeral service, to which relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend, will be held on Saturday, November 8th at 11:00 A.M. at St Gregory the Theologian Greek Orthodox Church, 1007 West Street, in Mansfield. Burial will follow at Saint Mary’s Cemetery, 1 Franklin Street, in Mansfield. Visiting hours will be held on Saturday November 8th prior to his funeral service from 9:00-11:00 A.M. at St. Gregory the Theologian Greek Orthodox Church,1007 West Street, in Mansfield.
