Obituary for María Elena González de Ibarra

It is with deep love and sorrow that the family of María Elena González de Ibarra announces her passing on October 19, 2025, at the age of 76, surrounded by her loved ones at her home.

María Elena was born on December 18, 1948, in Tepatitlan, Mexico, to Everardo González Reyes and Justina Martín Barba, both of whom preceded her in death. She later made her home in Chicago, Illinois. She was the beloved wife of the late Manuel Ibarra De La Torre, who preceded her in death on December 26, 2001.

Throughout her life, María Elena remained steadfast in her love and care for her children. After her husband’s passing, she carried on with grace and resilience, dedicating herself fully to her family. She never remarried, choosing instead to devote her life to her children.

She is lovingly remembered by her children: Ramiro (spouse Maria), Raul (spouse Edith), Alfredo, and Cristina (spouse Jaime). Her legacy continues through her cherished grandchildren Antonio, Alejandro, Xitlali, Raul Jr., Eliana, Elena, Damian, Juan, Emily, and Giovanni, and her great-grandsons Josiah and Alexander.

María Elena is also survived by her loving siblings Sara, Manuel, Irma, Armando, and Bertha, as well as many nieces, nephews, and extended family members who will forever remember her warmth, generosity, and kind heart.

She was known for her love of sewing, cooking and baking, her joyful and social nature, and her tireless work ethic. In her later years, she was lovingly cared for by her son Raul, together with her caretakers Norma and Rocio, whose devotion and presence brought her comfort and peace.

Her memory will forever live on in the hearts of those who were blessed to know and love her. The family wishes to thank all who provided care, support, and comfort to María Elena during her later years.

Visitation will be held Friday, October 24, 2025 3:00pm-8:00pm at Ocwieja-Robles Funeral Home, 4256 S Mozart.

María Elena nació el 18 de diciembre de 1948 en Tepatitlan, México, hija de Everardo González Reyes y Justina Martín Barba, quienes ya la precedieron en la muerte. Más tarde hizo su hogar en Chicago, Illinois. Fue la amada esposa del fallecido Manuel Ibarra De La Torre, quien la precedió en la muerte el 26 de diciembre de 2001.

A lo largo de su vida, María Elena se mantuvo firme en el amor y cuidado de sus hijos, guiándolos con fortaleza y compasión. Tras el fallecimiento de su esposo, continuó con gracia y resiliencia, dedicando plenamente su vida a su familia. Nunca volvió a casarse, eligiendo dedicar su vida a sus hijos.

La recordarán con cariño sus hijos: Ramiro (esposa Maria), Raul (esposa Edith), Alfredo, y Cristina (esposo Jaime). Su legado continúa a través de sus queridos nietos Antonio, Alejandro, Xitlali, Raul Jr., Eliana, Elena, Damian, Juan, Emily, y Giovanni, y sus bisnietos Josiah y Alexander.

También le sobreviven sus amados hermanos Sara, Manuel, Irma, Armando y Bertha, así como muchos sobrinos, sobrinas y familiares extendidos que siempre recordarán su calidez, generosidad y gran corazón.

Maria Elena era conocida por su amor a la costura, la cocina y la repostería, por su naturaleza alegre y sociable, y por su incansable ética de trabajo. En sus últimos años, fue cuidada con mucho cariño por su hijo Raúl, junto con sus cuidadoras Norma y Rocío, cuya dedicación y compañía le brindaron consuelo y paz.

Su memoria vivirá por siempre en los corazones de quienes tuvieron la bendición de conocerla y amarla. La familia desea agradecer a todos los que brindaron cuidado, apoyo y consuelo a María Elena durante sus últimos años.
