Obituary

Suzanne C. “Sue” LeClair, 76, of Dayville, CT, formerly of Burrillville, passed away Monday October 6, 2025 in North Scituate following a motor vehicle accident.

Born in Woonsocket, RI, she was a daughter of the late Normand and Juliette (Girouard) Cournoyer. She was raised in Manville and resided in Burrillville for many years. Sue also lived in Coventry and for the past several years in Dayville, CT.

Sue was the proud mother of Brian LeClair and his wife Donna of Coventry, Keith LeClair of Florida, Kimberly LeClair of Florida, James LeClair and his wife Heather of West Greenwich, Melissa (LeClair) Velazquez of West Warwick and Nicole LeClair of Dayville, CT. Sue was the loving “Memere” to Angeline Velazquez, Ian and Adam LeClair, Briana and James LeClair and Ethan and Allyson Hawks. She was the sister of Leo “Joe” Cournoyer of Georgia, Vivian Cournoyer of Massachusetts and the late Claudette Cournoyer. She is also survived by several nieces and nephews and their families. Sue was the longtime companion of the late Sally M. “Sal” Harwood. Sue and Sal created a loving home together for over 25 years before Sal passed away in 2018.

She was a graduate of Notre Dame High School in Central Falls. Sue went on to earn her associate’s degree in construction from New England Tech. Sue was employed by the State of Rhode Island as a Community Living Aid for many years. As a talented woodworker she was always in the process of building something. Her arts and crafts were her way of expressing her creativity.

Sue was a dedicated foster care parent to many children. She enjoyed “trying her luck” at local casinos. She had a special place in her heart to her faithful canine companion Cookie. Sue embraced modern technology in her own way…playing games on her phone! Sue was a member of Alcoholics Anonymous and was proud of her more than 40 years of sobriety. Never would she throw anything away that could be put to good use at some later date.

Sue will be remembered for being able to talk to anyone. She was at her best in small groups of close friends and family where she could share her love and concern for those she cares about most.
For all she did in her life Sue would undoubtedly say her greatest accomplishment was the family she raised. Everything Sue did in her life was for her love and commitment to her family.

Everyone is welcome to gather to honor and remember Sue at her funeral service Tuesday October 14th at 10:00 am at Menard-Lacouture Funeral Home, 127 Carrington Ave. Woonsocket. Sue will be laid to rest in the family lot at St. James Cemetery in Manville. Visiting hours are Monday October 13th from 4:00-7:00 pm
In lieu of flowers, donations can be sent to Friends of Assisi Food Pantry, 77 Water Street, Danielson, CT 06239.
