Germaine M. Christo, 93, of Manville died Friday October 3, 2025 at Hope Health Hospice Care Center in Providence. She was the loving wife of the late Joseph A. “Joe” Christo, Jr. They were married on May 26, 1956 at St. James Church in Manville and shared over 63 years together until Joe’s passing in 2019.
Born and raised in Manville she was a daughter of the late Alphonse and Alida (Guevremont) Laforest. She was a lifelong resident of Manville and a graduate of Woonsocket High School class of 1950.
Affectionately known to all as “Gerry” over the years she worked at the Providence Washington Insurance Company and ITT Grinnell Corporation. Gerry was employed for many years at Allied Adjustment Insurance Company before retiring.
Gerry was a lifelong communicant of St. James parish. She was an avid reader and kept up with the news and current events.
Gerry will be remembered for her love and devotion to her family. Her favorite role was being a grandmother; nothing could top that as far as Gerry was concerned.
Gerry is survived by her son John Christo and his wife Kimberly of Lincoln and a daughter Carol Christo Oliver and her husband Thomas Oliver of Oakland. She was the grandmother of Tyler, Cameron and Lauren Christo and Ian Oliver. Gerry was the sister of the late Roger, Leo and Yvette Laforest and Beatrice Roberts. Gerry is also survived by her nephews Charlie and Frank Roberts and their families.
Her funeral will be Wednesday October 8, 2025 from the Menard-Lacouture Funeral Home, 71 Central St. Manville followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 am in St. James Church, Division St. Manville. Gerry will be laid to rest at St. James Cemetery in Manville. Visiting hours are Wednesday morning from 8:15-9:45 am, prior to Mass at the funeral home.
