Mark J. Noponen, 69, of Worcester, passed away on Tuesday, September 30th at St. Vincent Hospital surrounded by his loving family. He leaves his brother, Matthew Noponen; two sisters, Anne Noponen Singer and Barbara Noponen; and three nephews, Zachary, Thomas, and Nicholas Noponen, all of Worcester. He was predeceased by his parents, Francis W. and Irene (McNulty) Noponen and sister, Robin F. Noponen.
Born in Agawam, Massachusetts, Mark was raised with a strong sense of family. He attended Columbus Park School, St. John’s High School and graduated from South High School. He went on to study Electrical Theory, Wiring, and Troubleshooting at Quinsigamond Community College.
Over the years, Mark worked as a senior machinist knowledgeable in precision CNC machining and programming, tool design and cutting, and process analysis for various industries.
Mark’s passions included shortwave radio operation; vintage radio collecting; and small electronic repairing. Mark was a member of the Auburn Sportsman Club where he was an avid marksman. He enjoyed collecting antique guns and rifles.
Mark will be remembered for his gentle nature. He was a devoted caretaker to his mother and sister for many years. He will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by all who knew him.
Calling hours will be held on Saturday, October 4th from 9:00am until 11:00am in O’CONNOR BROTHERS FUNERAL HOME, 592 Park Avenue, Worcester. Funeral services will begin at 11:00am in the funeral home. Burial will follow in St. John’s Cemetery, 260 Cambridge Street, Worcester.
