Obituary

Ann (Annie) Marie Smalley, age 65, of Taunton passed away with hope, faith and love in her heart at her home on Tuesday, September 2, 2025. A beautiful life defined by Annie’s strength and determination to create, craft and make from nothing, something. Something to cherish, something to build a life upon with so many of her people to love with the entirety of her soul and something to believe in with her unending faith in her Lord that she would eternally renew that strength in her rest.

Born in Brockton, MA, Annie was the daughter of the late Priscilla (Tucker) Farwell and the late Richard Poskus. After a childhood of movement throughout the Northeast, Annie set roots back in Brockton and married her first love William L. Smalley and proudly became a young mother of three sons. Annie’s full voice could be defined by Motherhood. Annie’s full heart could be seen in each of her sons. Annie was fiercely dedicated to her mother Priscilla and was a proud “Momma” to her three boys and she absolutely radiated joy in her role as “Grammie” to her grandchildren.

As a craft maker throughout her adult life, Annie’s ability to handmake showcased her eye for beauty in the imperfections. Her home always adorned with her creative touches. She surrounded herself with affirmative positivity and creativity in all forms. As a lover of fashion, Annie found a career in the clothing industry for over 30 years with a long tenured stay as store manager at Hajjar’s Men’s Clothing store in Burlington, MA where she helped create outfits, looks and connections with her clients. She loved helping her customers find their confidence and look their absolute best.

Annie forever found her joy in her kitchen whether it was cooking a meal through feeling (never one for a recipe), enjoying a cocktail and a laugh with friends or dancing around the kitchen table with her loves. In every place she called home, the kitchen is where you would find Annie’s smile. She also found her happy place with her toes in the sand and the ocean breeze in her hair. If the kitchen is where you found her smile, the beach is where you will find the majesty of Annie’s soul. Annie’s true peace was found in her faith. She was devoted and determined to live in that eternal peace with her Lord and Savior.

Her family would like to acknowledge the loving support of her “sisters at heart”, cousin Susan Hopton and her dearest friends Pamela Wirta and Christine Bettencourt (along with countless others) as well as the support, care and love from her companion John Alden.

Ann Smalley is survived by her loves, Annie’s three sons, Jason M. Smalley of Fall River, Adam R. Smalley of Charlestown, and William M. Smalley of Jamaica Plain; and her two loving grandchildren, Maura and Liam Smalley.

To honor her wishes, all funeral services will be privately held, and a Celebration of Life will be held at a date to be announced soon.
