John E. “Darby” Noonan
February 21, 1957 - September 26, 2025
John E “Darby” Noonan, 68, of South Boston passed away Friday morning with his family by his side.
To know Darby was to love him. He had a heart of gold with an infectious smile fixed on his face. Darby was known for his pure generosity that was felt by anyone who had the pleasure of crossing paths with him. Darby was always on the move, enjoying his walks around South Boston and his walk to FedEx where he proudly worked for over 20 years. Combining his love for walking and giving to others, Darby participated in Boston’s Walk For Hunger for many years. Darby was a passionate Boston sports fan, always engaging in sports talk with family, friends and neighbors. Darby’s true love was his family to which he was a beloved and positive light in.
Darby was the son of the late John E and Norma L Noonan of South Boston. Predeceased by his sisters Mildred L Noonan and Patricia M O’Brien both of South Boston. Survived by his sister Margaret M Bruneau of South Boston & her partner Edmond Saliba as well as his brother-in-law Gary O’Brien. Best friend to Richard Mahoney of South Boston. He leaves behind his cherished nieces and nephews, John & Graham Lyons, Keith & Kellie Lyons, Michelle Marks & Joseph Richiell, Lori Paul, Rebecca Bruneau & Timothy Beggan and Kaylee & Matthew DiFraia. Darby was also a proud great-uncle to six nephews who brought him endless joy.
His passing has left a void in the hearts of his family, friends, and many more whose lives were touched by him. His kindness and lighthearted spirit will be deeply missed. We invite those who knew Darby to remember his life with us. Services will be held Thursday, October 2nd at 10:30am at Casper’s Funeral Home shortly followed by mass at Gate of Heaven Church at 12:00. We will then gather to celebrate his life at Roza Lyons following mass.
