Shirley Cook, 90, passed away peacefully September 24, 2025 in Chelsea, MA. Shirley Bitensky was born November 16, 1934 in the Bronx, NY to Jewish immigrants Banny and Helen (Salter) Bitensky. She was raised in Chelsea and was a graduate of Chelsea High School.
Shirley married Melvin (Mel) Cook in 1954 and settled in Revere. She worked in advertising and personnel placement for many years and retired several years ago.
Shirley and Mel enjoyed traveling and sailing. Shirley took great pleasure in watercolor painting.
Loving mother to Gary Cook (Nancy) of Peabody and Jeff Cook (Christine) of Plymouth. She was a devoted grandmother to Allison O’Leary (Casey) of Winthrop and Matthew Cook (Bridget) of Brighton, MA. She was predeceased by a brother William and her husband Mel who both passed in 1997.
A graveside service will be held Monday, September 29, 2025, 12 Noon at Sudilkov Cemetery, 232 Fuller Street, Everett. Donations in Shirley's memory may be made to the Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson's Research.
