CHICOPEE – Richard L. Dion, 81, of the Willimansett Heights section of Chicopee, was Called Safely Home on Friday, September 19, 2025. He Passed into Eternal Life at Baystate Medical Center in Springfield surrounded by the care and comfort of his loving family. He was born at home in Chicopee on March 22, 1944, a son of the late Louis E. Dion and Rita I. (Allen) Williamson. He was raised and educated in Chicopee and had moved to Easthampton in 1962 before returning to Chicopee in 2019. He was the owner and operator of Richard’s Floor Service in Easthampton for 40 years. He enjoyed his work so much that he continued sanding floors and working following his retirement. During his leisure time, he enjoyed caring for his 1956 Chevrolet Belair and visiting many local car shows. Above all, he loved spending time with his family and many friends. He leaves his beloved wife and best friend, Joan E. (Martin) Dion. They were married on August 2, 1985 at Look Park in Northampton, MA and were blessed with over 40 years of happiness together. He also leaves his three loving daughters, Dawn Batchelder, Stacy Dion and Terry Dion, all of Easthampton; his loving step son, Timothy Wilber and his wife, Terry, of Chicopee; his nine cherished grandchildren; his five cherished great grandchildren; his four dear sisters, Patricia Dion of Chicopee, Loyce Fitzpatrick and her husband, Richard, of Springfield, Dorothy Llorens of Glendale, CA and Karen Stockman of Mississippi; his dear brother, Robert Dion of Colorado Springs, CO; and his many dear nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family members and friends. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his dear infant sister, Jacqueline Dion; and his three dear brothers, John Dion, Alan “Pete” Dion, Sr. and Ronald Dion. His family will receive friends on Thursday, September 25, 2025 from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. with a Prayer Service at 6:00 p.m. at the St. Pierre-Phaneuf Aldenville Chapels, (413-532-9806), 13 Dale Street, Chicopee, MA 01020. The funeral home parking lot and main entrance are located in the rear at 20 Lafayette Street, Chicopee, MA 01020. His Funeral and Burial will be private at the convenience of his family. In lieu of flowers, his family requests that memorial donations be made in his memory to the Lorraine’s Soup Kitchen and Pantry, 170 Pendexter Avenue, Chicopee, MA 01013.
