Obituary

“US“BostonRetired Boston Firefighter Joseph R. "Joe" Jackson, a 10-year resident of Revere and formerly of Charlestown, entered into eternal life on Sunday, September 7, 2025, at Melrose/Wakefield Hospital in Melrose. He was 85 years of age.

Joe was born in Boston on January 6, 1940, a son of the late Frank Jackson and Catherine (Collins) Jackson. He grew up in Charlestown where he was educated throughout the Boston Public School system and enjoyed the days of going to the Charlestown Boys & Girls Club. Joe enlisted into the United States Army on February 9, 1959, and served his country with honor and pride during the Vietnam Conflict. He was honorably discharged on January 27, 1961, with the rank of Private First Class. Joe was appointed to the Boston Fire Department in 1970 and was assigned to Engine Company 33 and Ladder Company 15 on Boylston St. in the Back Bay of Boston for many years. He later was transferred to Engine Company 32 and Ladder Company 9 in Charlestown for several years before being transferred to the Marine Unit until his retirement. He retired from the Boston Fire Department in 2004 following 34 years of dedicated service to the people of the City of Boston. He is a member of The Boston Firefighters Union Local # 718 and The Society of St. Florian. Joe enjoyed watching football and hockey games and will be missed by his longtime friends in Chicopee.

Joe is the beloved husband of 39 years to Margareth S. (Bastiaans) Jackson. He is the devoted father of Joseph R. "Joe" Jackson Jr. and his wife Jennifer and John "Jake" Jackson. He is the loving Papa to Marcella, Caitlin and Olivia. He is the beloved special brother of the late Florence and John Houlihan, Margaret Geary, Francis "Bobo" Jackson and Alice Fitzgerald. He is also survived by his many loving nieces and nephews.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend Joe's Funeral on Saturday, September 13, 2025, at 9 A.M. from The Carr Funeral Home, 220 Bunker Hill St. Charlestown followed by his Funeral Mass in St. Francis De Sales Church, 313 Bunker Hill St. Charlestown at 10 A.M. His burial will take place at Woodlawn Cemetery in Everett. His visiting hours will be on Friday, September 12, 2025, from 4 P.M. to 7 P.M. in the funeral home.
