Peter George Kunyz, 89, of Londonderry, passed away peacefully on September 4, 2025, at Parkland Hospital after a brief illness with cancer. Born in Milburn, NJ, on March 9, 1936, Peter was the youngest of twelve children.
Following the death of his father at a young age, he left school to help support his family, working alongside his brother Leo at a florist shop specializing in Christmas poinsettias.
On a blind date, Peter met the love of his life, Lois MacGregor. For Peter, it was love at first sight—he told her early on that he intended to marry her. After some thought, Lois said yes, and the two were married in 1956. They made their home in New Jersey, where Peter began his career with American Airlines. Starting on the ground crew, he worked diligently and proudly rose to the position of Ground Service Supervisor before retiring after 40 years of service at the age of 62. Peter’s greatest joy was his family. He is survived by his devoted wife of nearly 70 years, Lois, and their three sons: Peter, James, and Kevin. He was a proud grandfather of four grandchildren and six great-grandchildren, with two more soon to arrive.
A kind and generous man, Peter was also known for his practicality and frugality. He loved the outdoors, tending to his large vegetable garden, and spending time with family. Vacations were often centered on visiting relatives across the US and Canada. Special family trips took them to Hawaii, California, and Florida. He and Lois also cherished their Sunday drives after church, a simple pleasure that reflected his contentment in life.
A graveside service will be held on Tuesday, September 9, 2025 at 10:00 AM at Pillsbury Cemetery, Londonderry.
Peabody Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.
