Worcester, MA / Port Charlotte, FL - Robert G. “Bob” Kyes Sr., 83, passed away peacefully on Sunday night, August 17, 2025. Born in Bangor, Maine, he was the son of the late John F. and Geraldine E. (Conry) Kyes.
A longtime resident of Worcester, MA, Bob was best known to many at the local campground as “Pony Tail Bob,” where his warm presence and unmistakable laugh made him a beloved figure.
Bob had an entrepreneurial spirit from a young age. After starting out for Roadway trucking as a driver, he launched his first business — a power washing company — cleaning the delivery trucks for local Worcester companies. At the time, his only competition was in Springfield, MA and Providence, RI. This early venture sparked a lifetime of business pursuits.
Over the decades, Bob wore many hats: he built and managed a successful pool company, worked as a skilled carpenter renovating homes, co-owned multiple video rental stores in, and later on opened B-4 Antiques. Always ahead of the curve, he became one of the early adopters of selling antiques online through eBay. Yet, it was the pool business that remained his true passion — one he continued working until his retirement in 2022 at the age of 81.
Bob had a one-of-a-kind charisma. His quick wit and trademark sarcasm often left people unsure whether he was serious — until he burst into laughter, lighting up the room with his signature smile. He was generous, loyal, and always ready to lend a hand.
He is survived by his son, Christopher Kyes wife Kristie, and grandson Finley of Rhode Island; his daughter, Kim Miles of Florida; his grandchildren Sean, Shannon, and Sara; and six great-grandchildren
Bob was predeceased by his beloved sister, Barbara M. (Kyes) Flagg of Massachusetts, and his son, Robert G. Kyes Jr. of Florida.
