John Bicknell Jr. went home to be with his Lord and Savior on September 1, 2025, surrounded by those he loved most. He was predeceased by his parents, John Bicknell Sr. and Annie “Shepherd” Bicknell.
For 48 wonderful years, John shared his life with his beloved wife, Donna. Their marriage was a true partnership, filled with love, faith, and devotion. Together, they raised two sons, Michael J. Bicknell and Joshua A. Bicknell, whom John adored and was endlessly proud of. Being their father was one of his greatest joys, and he delighted in celebrating their accomplishments, guiding them through life, and simply spending time together.
John also treasured his lifelong friendships with James Callahan and Fred Perry. More than friends, they were like brothers, sharing in countless memories, adventures, and laughs over the years.
A man of many passions, John found joy in the simple and the extraordinary. He was happiest on the golf course, casting a line on deep sea fishing trips, camping beneath the stars, or walking through the Fryeburg Fair. A devoted fan of the Boston Bruins and the New England Patriots, he rarely missed a game. He also enjoyed the peace of gardening, the comfort of a good cigar, and the thrill of training and owning harness horses, a pursuit that brought him great pride and excitement.
In addition to these hobbies, John loved giving back to his community through coaching. In the 1990s, he coached his sons and many other children, proudly working with LAFA. His encouragement, leadership, and love of the game left a lasting impact on countless young athletes who were fortunate to be guided by him.
Those who knew John will remember his humor, his integrity, his loyalty, and above all, his steadfast faith. He lived each day with purpose and love, leaving behind a legacy of kindness, strength, and devotion to both family and friends.
Though his absence is felt deeply, John’s life and legacy live on in the hearts of Donna, Michael, Joshua, his dear friends, and all who were blessed to know him.
Calling hours will be held on Monday September 8, 2025 from 4 – 7 pm in the Peabody Funeral Homes and Crematorium, 290 Mammoth Road Londonderry. A private family burial will be held in the Fox Hill Cemetery, Billerica, MA. A celebration of John’s life will be held at a later date, where loved ones will gather to share stories, honor his memory, and take comfort in knowing that John now rests in eternal peace with his Lord and Savior.
