John J. "Jay" Alves Jr., a resident of Medford and formerly of Charlestown, entered into eternal life on Monday, August 25, 2025, following a courageous battle against ALS (Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis). He was 65 years of age.
Jay was born in Boston on October 13, 1959, a son of John J. "Jack" Alves and Marie R. (Callahan) Alves. He grew up in Charlestown where he was educated and graduated from Christopher Columbus High School in the North End of Boston in 1977. Jay had an extensive career as a Computer Operator and worked for Tufts Medical Center in Boston for over 20 years. Jay was an avid Boston sports fan and enjoyed watching all the Boston sports teams. He enjoyed spending time with his dog Mia and his favorite past time was fishing.
For those of us who knew and loved Jay, our lives were enriched by his sense of humor. We feel privileged to have known him. He was truly an extraordinary person and will be missed by everyone.
Jay is the beloved husband of Janet (Marks) Alves. He is the devoted father of Ashley Alves. He is the loving son of John J. "Jack" Alves and Marie R. (Callahan) Alves. He is the loving brother of Vicky Marshall and her husband Ted, Dawn Byrnes and her husband Michael and Maura Donahue and her husband Scott. He is also survived by his many loving nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend Jay's visiting hours on Monday afternoon, September 1, 2025, from 3 to 5 P.M. in The Carr Funeral Home, 220 Bunker Hill St. Charlestown. His burial will be private.
