Sandra (Andronic) Mazanitis, 75, of Worcester, died peacefully on Thursday, August 21st in Connecticut surrounded by her loving family. She leaves three daughters, Nicole M. Gorski and her husband, Alex Gorski, of Wilton, CT, Christina E. Drogkaris and her husband, Vasileios Drogkaris, of Orange, CT, and Sophia A. Mazanitis and her husband, Adarsh Mehta, of Buffalo, NY; a son, Alexander S. Mazanitis of Worcester; five grandchildren, Christopher and Zoe Gorski, Alexis and Leo Drogkaris, and Aria Mehta. She was predeceased by her husband of nearly 42 years, Nicholas Mazanitis.
Sandra was born in Bucharest, Romania, the daughter of the late John and Maria (Banolas) Andronic, both of Greek descent. The family emigrated first to Greece and then to the United States in 1962 as political refugees. Following in her father’s footsteps, Sandra followed her passion, studying chemistry at Assumption College and working at Hooker Chemical in Buffalo, NY, Astra Pharmaceuticals in Worcester, and UMass Memorial in Worcester. After the births of her children, Sandra shifted careers, becoming an entrepreneur and business owner. She was passionate about her career and worked until her final days.
Sandra was a loving and caring mother to her four children, supporting and endlessly advocating for them. She subsequently became a proud grandmother to five children, who she adored.
Her visitation will be held on Friday, August 29th in St. Spyridon Greek Orthodox Cathedral, 102 Russell Street, Worcester from 10:00 until 11:00 a.m. followed by her funeral service at 11:00 a.m. Burial will be in Hope Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Spyridon Greek Orthodox Cathedral, 102 Russell Street, Worcester, MA 01609 or St. Nicholas Orthodox Church, 34 Gold Street, Shrewsbury, MA 01545.
