Richard L. Souza, 79, of New Bedford, passed away on Wednesday, August 20, 2025 at Charlton Memorial Hospital. He was the husband of the late Louise (Laube) Souza, they shared 17 years of marriage.
Mr. Souza was born in New Bedford, son of the late Arthur H. Souza, Sr. and the late M. Elizabeth (Thibeault) Souza and was a Dartmouth resident for many years before returning to the city in 2007. A veteran of the U.S. Air Force, he served his country during the Vietnam War. Prior to retirement, he worked as a land surveyor for Old Boston Land Survey Co. in New Bedford. He enjoyed karaoke and sang as often as possible until experiencing health related issues several years ago. Richard was an avid reader and enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren.
Survivors include his son: Richard L. Souza, Jr. and his wife Katherine of New Bedford; and his 2 grandchildren: Julia and Ethan.
He was the brother of the late Arthur H. Souza, Jr.
Calling hours to which relatives and friends are invited will be Sunday, August 24, 2025 at the Kirby Funeral Home from 2:00pm to 4:00pm.
Interment will be private.
