Madawaska – Peter “Paul” Cyr, age 76, passed away on August 13th, 2025, at Springbrook Rehabilitation after an extended illness.
He was born in Frenchville, Maine on April 2nd, 1949, the 3rd son of the late Ivan and Alma (Paradis) Cyr. After graduating from Wisdom High School, he attended both Southern Maine Vocational Technical Institute and University of Southern Maine. Seeking employment Peter did various jobs before finally settling in at Fraser Paper as a Mill Wright. He spent the remainder of his professional career there until he retired in 2012. It wasn’t his education or profession that he was best known for, it was his kind Gentle Giant demeanor.
Peter was loved by most, including the nurses and doctors who took care of him till the end. He will leave a giant void in many lives as he wore a “S” on his chest. He literally would take the shirt off his back until he couldn’t anymore due to health complications. With strength and dignity, he fought like only Superman could, but eventually succumbed to his illness.
He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Kathleen and their only son, Ben and his wife Katie, and his greatest pride and joy his two grandsons, Kaden and Wyatt. He is also survived by his brother(s) Jim and wife Mae Rita of St. David, ME, Fred and wife Millie of Bristol, CT, and his sisters Theresa Lacourse (John) of Lexington, MA, Claire Pelletier (Robert) of Bowdoinham, ME, and his baby sister and one that helped take care of him in those last days, Beatrice Ouellette (Reginald) of Portland, ME. He is also survived by one sister in law, Diane (Dave) Daigle, and brother in law Glenn and wife Dianne Daigle, along with several nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by his parents, brother Ivan Cyr, Jr. (Monique), and sisters, Rose Marie Scalise (Anthony) and Patricia Cyr.
A funeral service is planned for Friday, August 22nd, at 10AM at St. Luce Church, 441 US Route 1, Frenchville, ME.
