Obituary

In Loving Memory of Edward James Alger,

Edward James Alger of Brockton, MA, born July 19th, 1968, beloved father, son, brother and friend passed away in his home on Wednesday, July 30th, 2025.

He was known for his deep sensitivity, boundless kindness and an open heart he wore on his sleeve. He was the kind of man who would give you the shirt off his back- often literally. A true confidant and caretaker, he put others before himself without hesitation, offering quiet strength and unwavering presence to those he loved.

Goofy to his core, he had a childlike joy that brought smiles to all around him. He loved cartoons- especially the peanuts. No matter how old his children got, watching them together remained a source of comfort and connection. His laughter was always genuine, and his eyes- a striking blue, held warmth and love.

He found peace in the simple things: fishing, especially for bass (his eternal target), sharing stories, going to the fair, tending to his mother’s garden, visiting the ducks at D.W. Park. One of his favorite spots to visit was the Cape Cod Canal. He loved nature, the ocean, animals, dogs, and being outside. He taught his children how to fish, not just with patience and pride, but with joy- lessons that went far beyond casting a line.

He had a sweet tooth and could never pass up on a devil dog or ding dong. He enjoyed sharing sweet treats and time with his children, whom he was very proud of, and always reminded after a sweet treat to brush their teeth and to always take care of themselves and their health.

Even in the final years of his life, as illness took its toll, he continued to smile, joke, and love deeply.

He was a devoted caretaker to his mother, Lillian, and now he rests beside her, united in peace.

He leaves behind two children, Kelsey Alger and Christopher Alger, brothers Donald Jr., Robert, John and Michael, sister, Michele, and many nieces and nephews, all who will carry his memory with them in the laughter he inspired, the lessons he taught, and the love he gave so freely.

Private family services will be held at Melrose Cemetery.
