Gary S. Lee
August 12, 1946 – July 17, 2025
Gary S. M Lee passed away on July 17, 2025, at the age of 78. Gary was a longtime member of the Ventura County community.
Gary was preceded in death by his parents, Clifford W.C. Lee and Annie E. Lee. He is survived by his daughters, Dana Sims (Scott), Lehua J. Sanoria Itokazu (JD), sisters, Marsha A. Robertson (Michael), Moana Tucker and brother Clifford A. Lee-Smit (Alphons). Grand children Ryan and Derek Sims, Gabriel Itokazu. Nieces and nephews, Monique Brandl, Aiden and Ashton Brandl, Kellee Almeida (Gerrald), Madison Austin and Lia Almeida, M. Scott Robertson (Lindsey), Nolan and Scarlet Robertson, Mark Robertson (Crystal) and Morticia (Ticia) Robertson, Andres Lopez (Fatima), Allyn and Andrea Lopez and Walter Mancia (Mago).
Born on August 12, 1946, in the Hawaiian Islands, Gary was raised in Oxnard, California, and graduated in 1964 from Hueneme High School. Known for his creative spirit and laid-back charm, Gary was a cherished presence in every chapter of his life.
For over four decades, Gary worked as a talented and trusted hairstylist in Ventura. His salon was more than just a place to get a haircut—it was a space of connection, laughter, and community. His clients often became lifelong friends, drawn in by his kindness and unwavering authenticity.
Outside the salon, Gary was most at peace in the ocean. A devoted surfer, he spent countless hours riding waves and soaking in the serenity of the sea. He was also a proud member of the Ventura Outrigger Canoe Club, where he paddled with friends and celebrated his love of the water. Gary played the ukulele with joy and had a deep passion for preserving and honoring his Hawaiian heritage—always staying connected to the culture that shaped him.
Gary will be remembered for his easygoing nature, dedication to his craft, and deep love for the coastal lifestyle. His legacy lives on in the many lives he touched—with a smile, a story, a song, or a perfectly styled cut.
He will be deeply missed and fondly remembered.
