Michael Anthony Luongo, 86, of Medford, Massachusetts, passed away peacefully on July 20, 2025.
Born on October 13, 1938, Michael was a lifelong Medford resident who remained deeply connected to his community throughout his life. He graduated from Medford High School, Class of 1957, and went on to dedicate more than five decades of service to the Massachusetts House of Representatives, a testament to his enduring commitment and work ethic. In addition to his career at the State House, he was the longest-serving board member of the Medford Housing Authority, where he played a vital role in shaping housing policy and supporting local residents in need of housing.
Michael's devotion extended beyond public service into every aspect of his life. He was a man of remarkable energy and passion who found joy in staying active. His love for politics was not just professional but personal; he followed local political developments closely and remained civically engaged.
Known affectionately as "Papa," loved every minute he spent with his family, especially his two granddaughters. His personality was a vibrant blend of generosity, intelligence, stubbornness, care, kindness, and love, a combination that made him unforgettable to all who knew him.
Michael and Lorraine loved traveling, taking annual trips to Bonita Beach, Florida, where they formed lasting friendships with fellow snowbirds. Their most memorable journey was a trip to Italy for their 50th wedding anniversary, a trip they enjoyed so much they returned a few years later - he was extremely proud of his Italian heritage.
Michael is survived by his beloved wife of 65 years, Lorraine (Lessard) Luongo; his son, Michael Luongo Jr. of Methuen; and his daughter, Lisa Nargi and her husband, Larry Nargi. He was a proud grandfather to Bianca Nargi and Marissa Nargi, and Marissa’s fiancé, Nathan Clement of Medford. He also leaves behind his sister, Mary (Luongo) Amico, with whom he shared a lifelong bond, and her late husband, Michael Amico. Michael was predeceased by his parents, Michael “Mickey” Luongo and Helen (Ciampi) Luongo, as well as his son, Steven Luongo of Gloucester.
Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to visit with the family at the Dello Russo Funeral Home, 306 Main St., Medford, on Thursday morning, July 24th from 10 AM until Noon followed by a Mass of Christian Burial celebrated in St. Raphael Church, 512 High Street, Medford, at 12:30 PM. Services will conclude with burial at Oak Grove Cemetery, Medford.
