Obituary

Dorothy Tallen "Dottie" Clawson, 86, passed away peacefully on July 17, 2025, in Boston, Massachusetts surrounded by her children, grandchildren and precious dog Polly. Born on August 25, 1938, in Boston, Massachusetts, she grew up in Brookline and fondly remembered spending summers in Plymouth during her childhood. A true life long learner, Dottie attended the University of Pittsburgh and Boston University to pursue a career in education. She taught English and History, was a guidance counselor and also spent time working with a hearing impaired student. Dottie lived a full and beautiful life marked by curiosity, compassion, and a deep love for her family.

Dottie was the beloved wife of Lawrence Clawson and shared with him a life filled with devotion and partnership for sixty-five years. Their relationship was founded on unconditional love and loyalty to each other. They were truly soul mates and best friends. Together they grew a large and loving family in Dover, Massachusetts that brought her immense pride and joy.

Dottie was the cherished sister of Jacqueline Tallen of Westborough, MA and Richard Tallen of Tampa, Florida. She is lovingly remembered by her children: Lawrence and Theresa Clawson of Tyngsborough, MA; Michael and Julie Clawson of Hastings, NE; Julie and Kenneth Blaney of Franklin, MA; Noah Clawson and Libby Brow of Concord, MA; Joshua Clawson of Dover, MA; and Thomas and Chrissy Clawson of Topsfield, MA. Her legacy will live on through her eight grandchildren: Ayla Blaney, Macie Clawson, Kerry Blaney, Grace Clawson, L. Glenn Clawson III, Jake Blaney, Brendan Clawson, and TJ Clawson as well as many nieces, nephews and lifelong friends. Dottie often credited her family for keeping her young at heart and was always present at the big and small events in each of their lives. She was everyone’s biggest fan and supporter.

Dottie had a zest for life that was evident in everything she did. She found great joy in reading, writing and theater—activities that reflected her imagination and creativity. Her love of travel took her to many places over the years, whether it was with her husband Larry or other family members, her trips were a reflection of her adventurous and open-minded nature. At home, she delighted in the companionship of her dogs, who were constant sources of comfort and affection.
