Obituary

In Loving Memory of Joyce C. Riley, August 17, 1954- June 24, 2025

Joyce C. Riley, beloved mother, sister, aunt, friend and lifelong animal lover, passed away peacefully on June 24, 2025, at the age of 70.

Born on August 17, 1954, to the late Barbara and James Riley of North Easton, MA, Joyce grew up surrounded by love, laughter, and a deep appreciation for animals. She carried that compassion throughout her life, spending over 40 years as a self-taught pet groomer, reading books and practicing on her first cocker spaniel, Holly. For 40 of those years, she proudly owned and operated It’s a Dog’s Life in Sharon, MA, where every pet and guardian were treated like family.

Joyce exuded warmth, kindness, and a gentle sense of humor that she extended to every being that crossed her path. A strong believer in continuing education, Joyce was a natural mentor, a fun boss, and a quiet supporter of the dreams and talents of those around her. Her love of animals filled her life with noise, fur, feathers and love as she wanted it to be. In her spare time, Joyce enjoyed live music, the arts, and all things whimsical. She loved spending time with family and friends going to local music venues, the renaissance faire, and day trips to Cape Cod and Little Compton, RI. Joyce loved attending dog shows and grooming trade shows to learn the latest trends, and was always up for dining on lobster with a good cosmopolitan, rocks on the side.

Joyce is survived by her cherished daughter, Kimberly Forde, and remembered by her loving husband, Michael Forde. She also leaves behind her loving sister Jeanne, brother Jim, nieces Sara and Jennifer, and her great-nephew and great-niece, Tyler and Hailey.

A private celebration of life will be held by her family. In leu of flowers and in honor of her life’s work, donations can be made in her name to a local animal shelter or rescue organization.

Joyce Riley lived her life with compassion, creativity, and deep dedication. Her warmth and humor will be remembered fondly, and her spirit will continue to inspire all who were lucky enough to know her.

Following Cremation, Services to be held at the convenience of the family.
