Obituary

CARUSO, John F. of Wrentham, formerly of Dedham, passed away peacefully, June 18, 2025, surrounded by his loving family. He was the beloved husband of Arleen F. (Abbott) Caruso, with whom he shared 59 years of love, laughter, and dancing.

Devoted father of Kerri Shore and her husband John Shore of Wrentham, John was the proud and adoring grandfather of Samantha, Matthew, and Caleigh Shore. Kerri and his grandchildren were the light of his life, and he was a constant, joyful presence at their gymnastic events, dance recitals, soccer games, basketball tournaments, and volleyball matches. Nothing brought him greater happiness than spending time with them, cheering them on and sharing in their accomplishments.

John was the cherished brother of the late James Caruso, the late Claire Caruso, and the late Gerald Caruso. He is also lovingly remembered by many cousins, nieces, and nephews.

A proud U.S. Air Force veteran, John was stationed in Bangor, Maine, where he took great pride in leading a program that taught children with disabilities how to swim—an early reflection of his lifelong dedication to helping others. Following his military service, he continued to serve his community as the postmaster in Medfield and as a long-time Dedham Town Meeting member. Local politics became a true passion, driven by his deep commitment to standing up for those whose voices too often went unheard.

John found immense joy in the simple pleasures of life: working at the family store as a young boy, spending time with Arleen, hosting pool parties with family and friends, summers in Marshfield and Cape Cod, sunny days by the ocean and fishing. He and Arleen especially cherished their getaways to Aruba and dancing together wherever music played. His love for the ocean was only rivaled by the deep love he held for Arleen, Kerri and family.

John’s warm smile, booming laugh, and generous heart left a lasting impression on all who knew him. He leaves behind a legacy of kindness, service, and unwavering devotion to the people he loved most.

Visiting hours will be held at the George F. Doherty & Sons Wilson-Cannon Funeral Home, 456 High St, Dedham on Wednesday, June 25 from 4-8pm. His funeral will be held from the funeral Home on Thursday, June 26 at 9am followed by a Funeral Mass in St. Mary’s Church, Dedham at 10am. Relatives and friends kindly invited. Interment in Brookdale Cemetery, Dedham.

In lieu of flowers, donations in John’s memory can be made to the New England Center and Home for Veterans, 17 Court Street, PO Box 845257, Boston, MA 02284-5257—a cause close to his heart.
