John Andrew Stewart, 89, of Derry, NH passed away Wednesday June 11, 2025, surrounded by his family at Pleasant Valley Nursing Care in Derry. John was born November 4, 1935, in Lebanon, NH and was a son of the late Emmett F. Sr., and Gladys Mae (Biathrow) Stewart. He was raised and educated in Enfield, NH and was a graduate of Enfield High School. John received a bachelor’s in education from Plymouth State College and a master’s degree in education from Keene Teachers College. He had been a resident of Derry for many years.
John served in the NH National Guard and worked for 15+ years as a teacher in the Salem, NH School District, and at the Windham Center School. After retirement , John worked with Derry Parks and Recreation Department as a groundskeeper. He also worked for many years as a landscaper at the Derry Village Condos. John loved reading and writing and had just published a book through Pleasant Valley. He cheered for all the New England sports teams. He enjoyed singing, boating on Lake Winnipesaukee and arts and crafts, including Towle painting. Above all, John enjoyed helping people, he loved to volunteer and was well known for bringing donuts to the Police, Fire and Medical employees in Derry.
Members of the family included his two daughters, Lynne Aslin and her husband James of Derry and Carole Stewart of Hooksett, NH, his granddaughter, Brittany LeBrun and sister Janet Stewart Knowles of N. Hampton, NH. John was predeceased by his brother, Emmett F. Stewart, Jr. and a sister, Eleanor Stewart Volpe.
