Steven A. O’Brien, Age 59, of Salem, passed away peacefully, surrounded by the love and care of his adoring family on Saturday, June 14, 2025. He was the longtime partner of Brian Forbes, with whom he made his home.

Born in Cambridge, MA on February 22, 1966, he was a loving son of Paul and JoAnne (Lovejoy) O’Brien of Norton.

Steve grew up in Wellesley and was a 1984 graduate of Wellesley High School. He continued his education, receiving a Bachelor’s Degree in Communications and Psychology from Framingham State College.

Steven began his working career as a District Executive for the Boy Scouts of America. He later was employed at Comcast, Constant Contact, Net Atlantic and Verizon.

A resident of Salem for the past eighteen years, Steve’s greatest love and passion was for family, friends and animals, especially his pet dogs. He loved all types of music and once performed in the musical “Hello Dolly” in West Roxbury. Steve also received an award from the Boston Globe for his talented photography, enjoyed collecting comic books when younger and will always be remembered for his exquisite cooking skills.

In addition to his partner and parents, he is survived by his devoted sister Lauren A. Ares of Norton. He was the dear uncle of Patrick Ares and Daniel Ares, both of Norton and the grand uncle of Emma, Abry, Alayna, Austyn and Kolton. He was the much-loved friend of Jimmy Julien and Nancy Moroney. He is also survived by his loving dog “Ellie” and his first dog was the late “Krypto”.

Relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend visiting hours on Tuesday, June 24th from 4:00-7:00 P.M. at the Norton Memorial Funeral Home, 19 Clapp Street (Off Route 140, Taunton Avenue) Norton.

A service will be held at the conclusion of visitation on Tuesday at 7:00 P.M. at the funeral home.
