James Newton Coburn, 90, of Tifton passed away Saturday, June 14, 2025, at his residence. A graveside funeral service will be held for Mr. Coburn at 3:00 p.m. Thursday, June 19, 2025, at Oak Ridge Cemetery, where he will be laid to rest with military honors. The Rev. Michael Marchant will officiate. The family will receive friends on Thursday, June 19, 2025, from 1:30 to 2:30 p.m. at Bowen-Donaldson Home for Funerals.
Born September 3, 1934, in Tift County, Mr. Coburn was the son of the late Arthur Clay Coburn and Anna Ruth Broome Coburn. In addition to his parents, Mr. Coburn was preceded in death by one brother, Everette Clay Coburn. He was a member of New River Baptist Church in Tifton.
Mr. Coburn was very patriotic and retired from the United States Air Force and was a disabled veteran, as well as being a member of the American Legion. After retiring from the United States Air Force, he was in the nursery business.
Mr. Coburn is survived by his wife, Dora Mae Cox Coburn of Tifton; two sons and daughters-in-law, James Newton II and Patricia Lynn Coburn of Wetumpka, Alabama and Glenn Alan and Barbara Jo Coburn of Tifton; one brother and sister-in-law, Arthur Lee and Ellen Coburn of Florida; one sister, Joy Pearl Coburn of Buford; three grandchildren, Jarod Coburn and his wife Breanna, Ashley Renae Wehunt and Christopher Coburn; and four great-grandchildren, Aiden Daniel Coburn, Evan Keaton Coburn, Connor Glen Coburn and Colton James Campbell.
