Douglas W. Tufts, 82, a devoted father, grandfather, and treasured friend, passed away unexpectedly on June 5, 2025. Born and raised in Worcester, Doug spent his life deeply connected to his community and those he loved.
Doug's greatest joy was his family, especially his daughter, Amie M. Caliri and her husband Mark, and his beloved grandchildren, Sydney, Chase, and Jacob. He was known as "Dada" to them, and this is a name he was proud of. He never missed an opportunity to cheer them on at their sporting events, mapping out the best routes to their games near and far was a source of laughs and memories. Whenever he bumped into an old friend, he was quick to tell them about the kids and how proud he was of them. He leaves his brother, Richard Tufts of PA; his sisters, Nancy Tufts and Beverly Noel both of NY; and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents, Wallace and llione (Bailey) Tufts; his sister, Harriet Capers; and his longtime companion, Laurine Lizewski in 2019.
A true craftsman, Doug dedicated his career to serving others, working for the Massachusetts Department of Employment and Training until his retirement. Also, a skilled contractor, electrician, and plumber, he was known for his meticulous work and the care he put into every job. Anyone lucky enough to have hired Doug knew they had the best. He also is a veteran of the United States Army. Doug had a passion for life, whether he was out on the golf course with his buddies, dancing with joy, or sharing one of his signature stories. His warmth and wisdom shone through in the small moments, like picking his grandson up from the bus stop for an after-school snack, always followed by a story or life lesson. Doug enjoyed traveling and exploring new places. He truly embodied the saying "live life to the fullest" and will be remembered as someone who cared deeply and lived life truly to what he believed.
To know Doug was to know someone truly special. His kindness, generosity, and unwavering dedication to his family and friends left an indelible mark on all who had the privilege of knowing him. He will be profoundly missed.
His funeral services are private and at the convenience of the family. O’CONNOR BROTHERS FUNERAL HOME, 592 Park Avenue is assisting the family with arrangements.
