Irene Mary (McPhee) McAleavey, age 90, of Chelsea passed away on Monday, June 2nd, at Katzman Center for Living in Chelsea. Raised and educated in Roxbury, she was the daughter of the late Peter and Mary (Richard) McPhee. Irene graduated from St. Joseph Academy and worked for many years as a secretary at the Massachusetts General Hospital. She was a longtime Medford resident. Irene was huge Red Sox fan, and also loved country music, especially the fiddle. She even played the spoons. Irene was good at cards, enjoyed BINGO, and concerts held at Katzman Center.
Irene was the beloved wife of the late Edward McAleavey. She was the dear sister of Peter McPhee of South Dakota and the late Alan, Paul and Louis McPhee, and the late Sister Mary Pierre McPhee, SC. She is survived by her longtime friends, Angie DeSantis of Medford and her daughters Lilly DeFabritiis and Debbie Furtado and their families, as well as many nieces and nephews.
Visiting hours have been respectfully omitted. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in St. Joseph Church, 118 High St., Medford, on Monday, June 9th at 10 AM. Relatives and friends are invited to attend. Services will conclude with burial at Oak Grove Cemetery, Medford. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be sent in Irene’s name to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, Memorials Processing, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105-9959.
