Eleni "Helen" (Makris) Poulakis, 67 of Worcester, died Friday, May 23rd in UMass Memorial Hospital with her loving family by her side. In 1980 she married her best friend and the love of her life, Stefanos Poulakis. She is also survived by her daughter, Anna Poulakis and her husband, Justin Oakliff, her sister, Melina Makris, her nephew Evans Makris who was like a son to her, her precious granddaughter, Luisa Makris, all of Worcester, and her sister-in-law, Fofi Poulakis of Athens.
Helen was born in Skopelos, Greece the daughter of Evangelos and Aggelike (Korfiatis) Makris and came to Worcester in 1970. She had worked as a health care representative for Fallon Health before retiring. She was a long-time member of St. Spyridon Greek Orthodox Cathedral. Helen will be remembered for her love of fashion and design and had worked as a model in her earlier years. Her trips to Greece every summer returned her to the land she loved and missed. She thrived on and enjoyed the simple things in life, whether it was a cup of coffee with her husband, or the breathtaking views of her favorite Greek beach. Courageous until the end, Helen maintained a positive outlook on life despite the challenges she faced. Her greatest joy was time spent with family, and she will be sorely missed by all who knew and loved her.
Her funeral will be held, Friday, May 30th at O'CONNOR BROTHERS FUNERAL HOME, 592 Park Avenue, Worcester, with an hour of visitation from 12:00 noon until the time of the service at 1:00 pm.
