Obituary

A death has occurred… Kathleen Anne (Walsh) Decareau of Easton, formerly of Georgetown and West Roxbury, passed away on May 19, 2024 surrounded by her loving family. The large and sometimes loud Walsh family spent the night taking turns visiting her in the hospital to say goodbye. Her children spent the night and were appropriately the last to hug and kiss her before she left to meet up with her much loved ones who passed before her. The reunion was likely loud as well and lovely!

Kathy Anne (as she was called by the family and closest friends) was born on April 16, 1959 to Walter and Joan (Connolly) Walsh in Boston. The family settled in West Roxbury and she was the oldest of 4 sisters, 1 older and 3 younger brothers in a loud Boston Irish Catholic family. She was very proud of her heritage.

She worked for the Verizon company for 23 years as a programmer and retired several years ago due to health issues. Prior to Verizon, she enjoyed working at the Boston Police Stables cleaning horse stalls and also loved telling stories about feeding snakes at the Franklin Park Zoo. She enjoyed telling creepy stories just to get people's reactions. Her other interests included crafting with tiles to create mosaic works of art; gardening by moonlight; solving word puzzles with friends all over the world; and generously overshopping for her family.

Kathy Anne was preceded in death by her parents, her brother Skip Walsh, her former husband John Decareau and sadly, most recently her daughter Jacquelyn Decareau.

She is survived by her children, Jennifer (Chris) Thibeault, Dylan (Jake) Lederer, Aidan Decareau and Casey Decareau and her siblings Tim (Pam) Walsh, Eileen (Michael) Hickey, Maureen (Bob) Blagdon, Colleen Golden (Paul Daley), Steven (Lisa) Walsh and Jake (Susan) Walsh. She will be greatly missed by her grandchildren Nick and Sophia Thibeault, Teagan Stappen, Rowan, Oak, and Alder Lederer. She will be missed by so many loving nieces, nephews, and great-nieces and nephews as well as many extended family members and friends.

The family will receive visitors from 3pm – 7pm on Saturday, May 25 at the George F. Doherty & Sons Wilson-Cannon Funeral Home, 456 High St., Dedham. Funeral services and interment will be private.

Kathy Anne’s family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her honor to the American Cancer Society https://www.cancer.org/
