Joan P. Raney

Joan P. (Conway) Raney, 88, passed away peacefully on Sunday, May 19, 2024. She had been married to Donald R. Raney for the last 63 years.
Joan was born and raised in Lynn MA and was the daughter of the late William and Beatrice (Cameron) Conway. Upon graduating from Lynn English High School in 1953, she began working at Sylvania in Salem. While Don worked at Sylvania as well, it took the work of two mutual friends to bring them together. They both claimed this introduction in 1957 was love at first sight and it led to their marriage on October 1, 1960 at Saint Pius V Church in Lynn. Their love, dedication, and mutual support for each other have been an inspiration for all who have known them, especially their children and grandchildren. Together, they were Co-Presidents of the Witchcraft Height Elementary School PTA, scout leaders, and proud cheerleaders for all their children and grandchildren in their various activities. Joan stayed at home to care for their two children for several years before returning to work for the Salem Public School system in various clerical roles until her retirement in 1996 from the Collins Middle School.
Joan enjoyed the simple pleasures. She loved to read, complete word search puzzles and travel. She would often talk about her trips to Lake Winnipesaukee, Bermuda, Ireland and Alaska. However, her true passion was spending time with her family. Family time without Joan’s dry sense of humor and insight will never be the same.
Joan is survived by her loving husband Don Raney, two children, Paula Osborn and her husband Steve and Jim Raney and his partner Antonia O’Hara. Joan also had four grandchildren and four great grandchildren with one on the way. They are David Hamilton and his wife Jeni, Lauren Sargavakian and her husband Rob, Jordan (Raney) Royston, Olivia Raney, Isabella and Delilah Royston, Violet and William Hamilton, and was looking forward to the arrival of Stella Sargavakian in September. She also leaves her brother William Conway, brother-in-law Edward Raney and many nieces and nephews, all of whom she loved dearly.
