Marguerite M. (Lavoie) Belanger, 93, a lifelong resident of Salem, passed away peacefully on Thursday, January 11, 2024 at Care One at Concord, in Concord, MA. She was the devoted wife of Rene A. Belanger, also of Concord, with whom she shared 68 years of marriage.
Born and raised in Salem, she was the daughter of the late Ernest and Laura ( Marquis) Lavoie. Marguerite was a graduate of the former Ste. Anne School and St. Joseph Academy. An intelligent and capable woman, she worked as bookkeeper for Loring Motors Salem. She had considered entering the convent until one evening she met the love of her life at a dance at the Salem Willows Ballroom. There followed the years devoted to Rene and their young family. Marguerite later worked for H&R Block as a tax preparer and New England Marketing Research as an accountant.
A devout Catholic and active member of Ste. Anne Parish, she was the parish secretary for a number of years. Family was above all First. She was kind, loving and remarkably talented as a seamstress, and at cake decorating and crafts. She loved creating beautiful and detailed Family History and Memory Books, treasured by her family.
In addition to her Rene, she is survived by their sons; Richard R. Belanger and wife Pat of Maynard, Roland J. Belanger and wife Diane of Danvers, Ronald A. Belanger and wife Liz of Laconia, NH, and daughters; Gloria M. Levine and husband Stewart of Lexington, Katherine A. Altschuler and husband Jeffrey of Carlisle, Annette M. Cuttle and husband William & Emily S. Dariotis and husband Steven all of Swampscott. She also leaves many grandchildren and three great-grandchildren, her sisters, Lucille Boulanger of Sherbrooke, Canada and Marie Williams of Newburyport and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her brothers, Gerard, Roger and Raymond Lavoie.

Relatives and friends are invited to her Mass of Christian Burial in Ste. Anne Church, 290 Jefferson Ave., Salem on Saturday, January 20, 2024 at 11:00 AM, to be followed by burial in St. Mary Cemetery, Salem. Visiting Hours at the Levesque Funeral Home, 163 Lafayette St. [Route 114 / 1-A] Salem, will be on Friday, Jan. 19th from 4:00 to 8:00 PM.
