Barbara T. Maxwell, 80

Barbara T. (Balch) Maxwell, age 80, a lifelong resident of Mansfield, passed away peacefully on Friday, August 25, 2023 at the Good Samaritan Medical Center in Brockton.

Born in Attleboro, MA on June 12, 1943, she was a loving daughter of the late Robert Balch and Helen (Griswold) Vassalotti.

Barbara grew up in town and was a 1961 graduate of Mansfield High School. She continued her studies, receiving a Bachelor of Art Degree in Education from Boston State College. She began her career as a Middle School Teacher at the Raynham Middle School and while teaching attended the New England School of Law, earning her Juris Doctorate in Law. Prior to retiring, Barbara was a lawyer practicing under the name of Barbara Maxwell Esquire.

Spending time with family were truly her favorite times and the happiness she received from her grandchildren and great grandson was second to none. Barbara loved spending the summer months at her home in Westport and the memories created there will remain in her family’s heart forever.

Barbara also loved science and nature, was a voracious reader and longtime Boston Red Sox fan. She loved music in general but her favorite artist to listen to was Bob Dylan. Throughout the years she enjoyed keeping in touch with her high school friends and at the time of her death was anticipating the birth of her second great grandchild. Barbara was a member for many years of the former First Christian Church in West Mansfield Village.

She is survived by her devoted children: Cindy L. McCarron and her husband Mark of Mansfield and Douglas G. Maxwell and his wife Judy of Mansfield. She was the cherished grandmother of Chelsey DeAngelo and her husband Joe of Dorchester, Grace Maxwell of Mansfield and the treasured great grandmother of Douglas DeAngelo. She was the dear sister of Dennis Vassalotti and his longtime companion Denise of Norton, Vicki Reed and her husband Dan of Raynham, Joseph Vassalotti of Attleboro and the late Leslie Partington, Deborah Thomas and Pamela Heylin. She is also survived by her loving nieces and nephews.

Relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend a service in celebration of her life on Saturday, September 2nd at 11:00 A.M. in the Immanuel Lutheran Church, 647 North Main Street, Attleboro. Burial will be private.

Visiting hours are omitted and in lieu of flowers, Barbara’s family has requested that donations in her memory be made to Our Daily Bread-Mansfield Food pantry, 15A West Street, Mansfield, MA 02048.
