John J. McCarthy

John J. McCarthy, age 97, formerly of Canton & Milton, of Naples, Fl passed away March 13th. Born in Boston, he was raised in Jamaica Plain and graduated from the High School of Commerce and Suffolk University and was a proud Navy Veteran of WW II. He worked for many years as an Insurance Agent for Phoenix Life Insurance. He was the Past President of the Norfolk and Plymouth Estate Planning Council, Past Chairman of the Mass Life Underwriters Political Action Committee, a member of the Canton Democratic Town Committee, a member of the Knights of Columbus Council #2095 in Canton, a member of the American Legion Post #24 in Canton, a longtime member of the Old Colony Yacht Club, a Founder of the Edgewise Club in Canton, a member of the Milton Hoosic Club in Canton, and the Fox Fire Golf Club in Naples, FL. He was also co-founder of the Suffolk University Half Century Club, and was active in the Irish American Club of Naples.
Beloved husband of the late Anne Marie (Scanlon). Father of John J. McCarthy III and his wife Katherine of N. Attleboro, Suzanne M. Appleton and her husband Andrew of Vernon, CT. Brother of the late Marie Klotz, Irene McCarthy, and James McCarthy. Also survived by 5 grandchildren, 2 great grandchildren and his companion Nancy Souther of Milton. Visiting hours at the Dockray & Thomas Funeral Home 455 Washington St. Canton Thursday 4:00 to 7:00 pm. Funeral Mass at St. Oscar Romero Church, Canton Friday morning at 10:30. Burial Canton Corner Cemetery.
