Pierre Joseph Pelletier, “Pete”, 84, of Salem, MA, formerly of Worcester, MA died comfortably surrounded by the care and love of his family and staff of Lafayette House, Marblehead, MA on Sunday, March 5, 2023, following a period of declining health.
He was born in Winchendon, MA, on July 25, 1938, the son of the late Alfred G. Pelletier, MD, and Gertrude Annette (Dozois) Pelletier. He and his siblings spent summers at their “camp” on Lake Monomonac, Rindge, NH, always sharing many stories of their exploits together there.
Pete graduated from Assumption Preparatory School and Assumption College of Worcester, MA. As a chemist and sales/technical specialist of the former Hamblet and Hayes Company of Salem and Buckman Labs of Memphis, TN, he specialized in the wet end chemistry of paper making and travelled world-wide. He was a sports enthusiast, excelling at baseball (scouted by the Boston Red Sox in Prep School) and football, but being kept humble by the game of golf throughout his adult life.
Pierre is survived by his wife of 54 years, Karen (Bennardo) Pelletier of Salem.
He is the proud father of son James A. Pelletier (Jennifer) of Ayer, MA and daughter Kristen A. Coles (Darrell) of Katy, TX. “Pete” is the adored Grandpa to Jackson A. Pelletier and “Boppa” to Nina M. and Desmond A. Coles.
Pierre is also survived by brother George A. (Francoise) Pelletier, MD, of Suffield, CT, and sisters, Audree Vadnais of Chicopee, MA, and Marie L. Pelletier of Kingston, MA. He is predeceased by sister Collette Rueda Kmetz of Pompton Lakes, NJ, and Jacqueline O’Neil of Worcester. He is also survived by many loving nieces and nephews. He valued his family and his strong Catholic faith above all else.

The funeral Mass will be celebrated Saturday at 1:30 pm at St. James Church, 160 Federal St., Salem, MA. There are no calling hours but all who wish to help celebrate Pierre’s life, will be welcomed at the Church vestibule by the immediate family beginning at 1:00. Interment will be private. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly suggests that gifts in Pierre’s memory be made to the St. Vincent de Paul Society of St. James Church, Salem.
