Gertrude C. Powers, 92, passed away peacefully with family by her side on Feb 24, at the Hunt Nursing home in Danvers.
Born in Salem, she was the daughter of the late Frederick J and Eva (Thibodeau) Violette. She attended St Joseph High School and was a proud graduate of the Salem Hospital School of Nursing Class of “52”.
She was a caring and compassionate nurse who worked in various settings including Dr’s offices, Mary Alley Hospital, Devereux Nursing Home, Salem Hospital and Travelers Ins. She retired in 1997 and continued working part time in retail at Witch Tees and Filenes Basement for several years.
She had an adventurous side and enjoyed traveling with trips including hot air ballooning, Schooner Boat trips, Ireland and Violette Family Reunions. She loved going to the theatre, relaxing at the Willows, planning brunch for the Cherry Blossoms and attending local events on the North Shore.
Above all, she enjoyed spending time with her family and friends. Gert was always loving andsupportive of everyone’s needs and was known for sending cards for every occasion. She took great pride and joy in spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She had a wonderful group of long time friends who got together for annual pot luck suppers and more. She was an avid reader and lifelong learner.
Gert was the loving mother of Charles Powers Jr, Christopher Powers and his wife, Doreen, Catherine Millen and her husband Stephen, Craig “Buster” Powers and his wife Joan. The cherished Memere of Samantha Camerlengo and her husband Matt, Greg Millen and his fiancée Cayla, Zachary Powers and his girlfriend Jessi, Joshua Powers and Clare AuBuchon. The adoring Great-Memere to Benjamin, Jack and Olivia. She also leaves behind her close cousins Joanne and Judy. As well as many other cousins.
She was predeceased by her son James Powers, brothers Alfred and Marcel Violette and former husband Charles Powers.
The family would like to thank all the staff at Care Dimensions for their compassionate care, support and guidance, as well as the staff at the Hunt Nursing Home and her Personal Care Assistants.
Arrangements: Visiting hours will take place on Friday, March 3, 2023, 4:00 to7:00 PM at the Levesque Funeral home, 163 Lafayette St, [Route 114 / 1-A] Salem. Her funeral service will be held Saturday, March 4, 2023 at the funeral home at 11:00 AM. In Lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Care Dimensions, 75 Sylvan St., Danvers, MA 01923.
